Ho iniziato a raccogliere antiche fotografie di famiglia trovate nei mercati di Palermo, e poi ci ho ricamato un filo rosso. Un filo rosso, a ricostruire e inventare storie passate, tracciare connessioni e legami, unire sguardi. John Berger nel suo saggio “Quel che è tenuto” scrive: “Ma in ogni forma d’amore il passato e il futuro sono compresi come presenti. Quel che è momentaneamente tenuto, colto dall’immaginazione attraverso l’energia dell’amore, produce un tutto, che è fuori dal tempo.” Il mio è un gesto di cura e d’amore, che con pazienza ricuce ferite del mio presente, e nell’atto del ricamo, attraverso la tecnica del punto indietro, il tempo si ferma, non c’è più né passato né futuro, e tutto è compreso in uno sguardo d’amore, eterno, guaritore. Osservo e immagino la vita vissuta in queste fotografie, storie di famiglia, d’amore, di vita, una linea rossa che unisce tutti, al di là dello spazio, al di là del tempo.  

I started collecting old family photographs found in the markets of Palermo, which I then embroidered with a red thread. A red thread on the eyes, to protect, reconstruct and reinvent past stories, to draw connections and create bonds. John Berger in his essay “What which is held” writes: “But in every form of love the past and the future are comprised as present. What which is momentarily held, caught by the imagination through the energy of love, produces a whole, which is out of time”. Mine is a gesture of care and love, which patiently sews up inner wounds, and in the act of embroidery, through the technique of back-stitching, punto indietro in Italian, time stops, there is no longer any past or future, and everything is held in a loving, eternal, healing gaze. I observe and imagine the life lived in these photographs, stories of family, of love, of life, a red line that from the gaze, connects everyone, beyond space, beyond time.
